Georgia State Patrol Savannah Nighthawks 8 man team makes 587 DUI contacts a month

Savannahnow.com reports that the Southern Branch of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Nighthawks is making 587 “DUI Contacts” or DUI quota a month with only 8 men. There grant of federal money from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety only requires 100 “DUI Contacts” a month.

The Savannah DUI GSP Nighthawks have made 366 DUI arrests this year.  The GSP was awarded a 1 Million Dollar HEAT grant by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to patrol DUIs in Bulloch and Chatham Counties but the focus has been in Savannah where there are lots of unwitting tourists and art students with fat wallets to pay the big DUI fines.
