What does a given blood alcohol level mean?
Friday, 29 December 2006

There are three legal limits applicable to Blood Alcohol under Georgia Law.

1.   0.02 is the legal limit for persons under twenty one (21) years of age.
2.   0.08 is the legal limit for adults over twenty one (21) years of age driving non-commercial vehicles.
3.   0.04 is the legal limit for persons driving commercial vehicles or large trucks or buses.

Georgia Law provides for legal inferences for blood alcohol under 0.08 grams.  From 0.05 to just under 0.08 grams, this is no presumption of either impairment or sobriety.  Under 0.05 grams, there is a presumption of sobriety.

The Chart below provides the alcohol calculator taught to Georgia Law Enforcement Officer up until the 2006 revision of the Intox 5000 operator training manual which recognizes the gender bias in blood alcohol measurement.  This calculator estimates your blood alcohol content based on the number of 5% alcohol beers, one ounce liquor drinks or 4oz glasses of wine you consume relative to your body weight.
