Study finds Uber reduces both DUI and late night traffic fatalities

The Federalist.com reported on June 16th, 2016 on a new study by University Economic Professors (Dills, Angela K. and Mulholland, Sean E., Ride-Sharing, Fatal Crashes, and Crime (May 31, 2016). Available at SSRN: http://ssrn.com/abstract=2783797) that Ride sharing apps such as Uber reduce traffic deaths and DUI arrests. The study looked at three years and in over 150 cities. The study found a statistically significant reduction in DUI arrests as well as Traffic Fatalities. Other crimes were included in the study and did not show similar decreases over the same period. Also interesting was the increase in automobile thefts and break-ins by people who left their cars overnight at bars.

This proves that markets work better than the Judicial-Incarceration-Probation Industrial Complex at regulating unsafe behaviors and reducing traffic deaths at no additional cost to taxpayers.
