Fulton County Courthouse floods and court documents damaged

WSB TV reported on July 28th, 2014 that a pipe in a 9th-floor bathroom burst on Friday night and flooded all weekend damaging courtrooms, offices, and numerous official court documents. The flooding affected the entire family law division, administrative offices, and the District Attorney’s office. In the meantime, employees have been moved to make-shift office spaces and some are wearing protective masks assembly from mold exposure. There is no word on whether records have been permanently lost or if computer systems were destroyed. Court systems are based on record-keeping usually in both computer form and on paper.  It will be interesting to see if the Courts and District Attorney’s office were using any off-site computer record backup services like cloud-based servers. If not, this flood exposes a major weakness in record keeping and the administration of justice in Fulton County.
