Effective June 7th, 2010, the hours for Central Records will be shortened to 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Central Records is closed on Saturday and Sunday.  Incident reports are $0.25 per page. Expungements of criminal records may also be obtained for arrests made initially by DeKalb County Police Officers.  Expungements are $25.00. Expungements are generally only available by agreement with the Police and Prosecutor or under O.C.G.A. 35-3-37 (see generally, Burgess v. Meinken, 420 SE 2d 329 – Ga: Court of Appeals 1992) where the charges were dropped or without referral to the prosecuting attorney or dismissal before the filing of an indictment or accusation.

Persons seeking to have criminal records expunged must first request the original agency (arresting agency) in writing to expunge the records using the form prescribed by the Georgia Criminal Information Center (GCIC).  The Application must be completed and submitted to the arresting agency with the required fee.  The Application is then processed and must be approved by the arresting agency and the applicable prosecutor either the Solicitor General or District Attorney’s Office.  The expungement process can take anywhere from 6 to 9 months.
